World records fell at the European Championships

At the 85th Men’s and 19th Women’s European Championships held to commemorate the 80th Anniversary of the Polish Weightlifting Federation, the Continent’s lifters took a very powerful start this year. The women’s fields were clearly dominated by the Russian lifters who won the team classification by an enormous margin. Among the men, Belarus came out as the surprise winner, preceding Russia by 27 points. The first world records of the year fell in Wladyslawowo:

Svetlana Shimkova (RUS) improved the Clean and Jerk world record to 141kg in the Women’s 63kg category

Andrei Rybakou (BLR) set a new Snatch world record in the Men?s 85kg with 186kg

Local favourite, Marcin Dolega (POL) also managed to lift a new world record, also in Snatch in the 105kg: 199kg
