Izmir: Another proof of organisation excellence

Representatives of 35 nations from all five continents left Izmir, Turkey, with pleasant memories and satisfaction, having completed the 9th edition of the World Cup for University and College Students. The Turks once again proved their excellence both as hosts and organisers, and as athletes.

A work force headed by Dr. Hasan Akkus, President of the Turkish Weightlifting Federation, with the strong support of the General Directorate of Youth and Sport and the City of Izmir staged excellent Championships in the new Halkapinar Sport Centre during three busy days on 30th June, 1st and 2nd of July.

Among the women, SHU Jiean of China, lifting in the 63kg category and reaching a 233-kg total was awarded the ‘Best Lifter Trophy’. In the men’s field home boy BINAY Mete (69kg) scored the absolute best result by any standard and duly deserved the ‘Best Lifter Trophy’ offered by the AIPS Weightlifting Commission.
