Young Kazakh superstar wins again
Men`s 94kg: Just two years ago nobody had heard of a 16-year old weightlifter from Kazakhstan, Ilya Ilin. In 2005, however, he entered the ranks of top champions in the nick of a time. He first captured the junior titles in Busan then added the senior gold medals to that in Doha. He was also elected as Lifter of the Year in 2005.
In the same manner did he confirm his superiority this year. Ilin won the Junior worlds in Hangzhou and defended his title in Dominica, too. In total three lifters tied at 392kg, but it did not affect Ilin`s confident victory. His first clean and jerk (217kg) already put him into first place, so he would not lose anything by attempting to break the world record (233kg). In the end, he could not make it but remained firmly in the champion`s position. There were 44 lifters in the lineups in the 94kg.
