Nazik Avdalyan (69 kg): I dedicate my victory to Armenians all over the world
Armenia’s women weightlifters taking part at the World Weightlifting Championships in Goyang, returned home with gold and bronze medals.
Gold medalist Nazik Avdalyan (69 kg) says the final results weren’t as important to her as being able to perform her best. “Honestly, I wasn’t thinking about winning. I wanted to justify the hope placed on me by my coaches and my people,” Nazik told journalists. “Before coming out, I prayed, but prayer alone doesn’t help when you are standing in front of the barbell. You can rely only on your strength.”
Nazik said that she could feel the support of her people from far away and this helped her maintain her composure and remain calm. “Therefore I dedicate my medal to Armenians all over the world. The day I won my gold medal was the birthday of the president of Armenia’s Olympic Committee. It was a pleasant surprise for his birthday,” Nazik said.
