Elections to the executive committee of the Indian Weightlifting Federation

After six lifters flunked random dope tests conducted by the World AntiDoping Agency (WADA) in September, the Indian federation was under pressure to quit – lock, stock and barrel. Elections to the executive committee of the Indian Weightlifting Federation are to be held in the Capital on Sunday. Subramanium Swamy, secretary of the Karnataka Weightlifting Association, who was supposed to contest for the post of secretary-general, now doesn’t want to stand for the post. “We were all made to understand that Subramanium was going to contest for the post of secretary-general. But he pulled out of the fray last week,” said an official.
