Monika Devi hearing postponed

The second session of hearing in the Monika Devi doping case was postponed following the absence of the lifter’s lawyer when the matter came up before the National Anti-Doping Disciplinary panel.

The panel, headed by senior advocate Sudhir Nandrajog, put off the matter by another two months since one of the panel members, former Asian Games champion athlete Kamaljeet Sandhu, would not be available for at least another six weeks.

With more than 16 months having elapsed since Monika was stopped from taking a flight to Beijing for competing in the Olympics, following a ‘positive’ dope case, there is now concern about the case taking close to two years, the standard suspension period for an anti-doping rule violation.
