Hamidul Islam wrote his name in golden letters

Veteran lifter Hamidul Islam wrote his name in golden letters in the history of the country’s weightlifting clinching the first gold medal for Bangladesh in the 11th SA Games in the 77 Kg weight category.

This was the first international gold for Bangladesh in weightlifting since the emergence of independent Bangladesh.He lifted 117 kgs in snatch and 140 kgs in clean & jerk.

Hamidul was ecstatic after the feat. ‘I don’t have the words to explain the feelings, It is like a dream come true after a long time, I have been trying to win the Gold for the country not for me, I am happy that I have achieved the feat’ said Hamidul.

Hamidul however saw another point behind his success. ‘I was really driven by the gesture of the Prime Minister when she called us at her residence, her request was admirable and I got really motivated by the occasion, I pledged to myself that this time I have to win the Gold, and at last I did it’ said the ace weightlifter.

Hamidul was thankful to the Bangladesh Olympic Association also. ‘They arranged the long term training and it proved worthy, I hope the trend would continue’ said Hamidul.

Kutubuddin Ahmed, the secretary general of BOA congratulated Hamidul on his feat. ‘Congratulations Hamidul, you have initiated the way we were looking for, it is our commitment to continue the training for the further successes in the upcoming challenges’ said Kutubuddin.
