Nigeria grabs weightlifting slot
Nigeria has won a ticket to feature in the Youth Olympic Games weightlifting event.
At the end of the Youth Olympic Games trials in Egypt , Nigeria won 13 gold, nine silver and 18 bronze medals to place second behind Egypt.
The Nigeria Weightlifting Federation Technical Director, Tunde Adedimeji, said the result was possible because the team was predominantly made up of females.
The NWF Secretary, Uche Onwumeh, said both Tosan Bawo (48kg) and Rachael Ekoshoria (58kg) performed beyond expectations while setting new African records in their categories. She said only one of them would be chosen to represent the country at the Olympics.
