Lu Xiaoyun (CHN) and Jang Mi-Ran (KOR) voted as Lifters of the Year
In the annual Lifters of the Year Voting of the World Weightlifting magazine, the weightlifting community elected a Chinese as Best Male Lifter and a Korean lady as Best Female Lifter of 2009.
Obviously honouring his exceptional performance by breaking two senior world records – the only ones among the men last year – voters were more or less unanimous in casting their ballots on LU Xiaoyun from China, who triumphed in the 77kg category at the Goyang World Championships.
Kazakh Vladimir SEDOV took second place and Polish Marcin DOLEGA received the third highest number of votes.
Among the women, the supremacy of Korea’s national heroine JANG Mi-Ran (+75kg) was reconfirmed as she got 931 points from those casting the ballots. Svetlana PODOBEDOVA (KAZ), another world-record setter qualified as runner-up, and 16-year old Zulfiya CHINSHANLO, also from Kazakhstan, made a wonderful finish as third best of 2009.
