Russian Championships in Kazan serve as Universiade Test Event

From 27th May to 2nd June, the Russian Championships are being held in Kazan, capital of the Republic of Tatarstan. The Championships inaugurate the renewed and revamped ‘AK Bure’ ice hockey hall, the venue of weightlifting at the 2013 FISU Summer Universiade.
Weightlifting will be one of the 27 sports to feature on the program of the 24th Universiade due to be opened in just over a month, on 6th July. Staged in a joint effort of the Russian Weightlifting Federation, the Kazan 2013 Universiade Organising Committee and the Sports and Youth Ministry of Tatarstan, the Championships can very well serve as a major test to make sure everything is perfect by the time of the Games in July.
FISU Technical Delegate Aniko Nemeth-Mora was present to check the venue, the organisation and provide advice wherever necessary. “I am sure Kazan will deliver a wonderful Universiade and weightlifting will be a major highlight,” Aniko said to the Tatarstan media. “In the last two years the city has changed enormously and has been beautified;  formidable modern sports venues have been built to accommodate an event of almost Olympic Games dimensions. Together with the experience and technical expertise of our Russian friends, I am sure we shall be able to stage excellent competitions.”
