GB Weightlifting named Team for 2013 IWF World Championships

THREE members of the GB weightlifting squad have been selected to compete at the World Senior Championships in Poland next month after hitting qualification targets.

London 2012 Olympic athletes Jack Oliver (Leeds) and Natasha Perdue (Swansea) will be joined at the event in Wroclaw by Crystal Palace lifter Emily Godley.

Swansea-based Perdue, 38, won the British Championships in July and will compete in the 69kg class.

Oliver, 22 and based in Leeds, also won the British title in the 85kg class with a total lift of 312kg.

Godley, also 22 and from London, is the current English Champion after lifting a total of 190kg in the tournament in February.

All three have just returned from a warm weather training camp in Tenerife, where they were also joined by Sonny Webster, Brad Burrowes, Ben Watson and Chris Freebury.

The top class facility helped all athletes hone their skills, with 11 lifting platforms available as well as GB coaches and nutritional support and body composition analysis.

Bristol-based Webster, 19, is now a UK Sport funded athlete following his winning performance at the British Championship and good level of recent progress.
