Commonwealth Weightlifting Federation appoints new President

As a result of the casual vacancy created by the recent resignation of Hon. Vinson Detenamo (NRU) as President of the Commonwealth Weightlifting Federation (CWF), the Executive Board has, in line with the article 7.4 of the constitution appointed a new President until the CWF Electoral Congress is held in Glasgow on 29 July 2014.

Accordingly, the Executive Board is pleased to announce the appointment of Malaysian, Dato Ong Poh Eng as the new President of the Commonwealth Weightlifting Federation.

Having been elected Vice President in 2006, Dato Ong Poh Eng is a well-respected Sports Executive with over twenty years’ experience in delivering international events, managing National Federation affairs and holding public office.

Presently, Dato Ong Poh Eng also serves as Vice President of the International Weightlifting Federation, President of the Malaysian Weightlifting Federation and was Chairman of the 2011 Junior World Championships Organising Committee.

His other positions within the public sector include; President of the Penang Weightlifting Association, President of the Penang Swimming Association, Vice President of the Malaysian Body-Building Federation, President of the Penang Body-Building Association, Vice President of the Malaysian Ballroom Dancing Federation, Chairman of the Penang Water Sports Centre, President of the Penang Muay Thai Association and Executive Board Member of the Penang Golf Club.
