Gold for Thailand and Tunisia

Women’s 58kg

Approaching to 100kg, SRISURAT Sukanya (THA) ended the Snatch with a Gold Medal. Victory was however awarded to the Colombian lifter ALVAREZ CAICEDO Yenny Fernanda in the Clean & Jerk because of lighter bodyweight. Both lifted 119kg.

Bronze Medallist in the Snatch, ALVAREZ managed to take the second place of the podium in the Total with 213kg.

Starting with a Silver Medal in the Snatch, RIM Un Sim (PRK) was awarded 5th place in the Clean & Jerk. Her advantage in the Snatch was enough for the Bronze Medal in the Total.

Quotes from SRISURAT Sukanya (THA):

I wasn’t expecting to win; the result I achieved is my personal best.

My idol is SIRIKAEW Pimsiri (THA), Silver Medallist at the London 2012 Olympic Games lifting in the same bodyweight category. I hope one day I will achieve such results.

Men’s 69kg

The Chinese lifter YUAN Chengfei took the lead in the Snatch, but lifted only 1kg more than the Tunisian lifter BEN HNIA Karem (TUN) – 146kg for one and 145kg for the other.

Third place in the Snatch went to PETROV Sergey, winning the first Russian medal of the competition.

In the Clean & Jerk, BEN HNIA won the Gold with 173kg but only by bodyweight over the Kazakh lifter LINDER Albert.
