“Tissot World Record Award” winners!

Le Locle, Switzerland/Incheon, Korea, 23 September 2014. Press conference for two North Korean athletes, Om Yun-chol and Kim Unguk and Taiwan’s Hsu Shu-ching who set new world records during the past days, was held in the Main Press Center (MPC) at 10 am on September 23rd.

The first world record in this edition of the Asian Games came out on September 20th when Olympic champion Om Yun-chol broke his own world record by 1 kg with a lift of 170kg in the clean and jerk at the Moonlight Festival Garden Weightlifting Venue, claiming his country’s first gold medal at the Games. His fellow weightlifter, Kim Unguk, established a world record for the men’s snatch 62kg weightlifting competition after lifting 154kg on his third attempt at the same venue on September 21st. Hsu Shu-ching also broke the world record in the women’s 53 kg weightlifting category with a combined lift of 233kg.

Right before the press conference, Tissot, the official timekeeper of the 17th Asian Games Incheon 2014, proudly presented the “Tissot World Record Award”! In order to commemorate the historic moment, Tissot awarded the three gold medal winners/ world record breakers with Tissot 17th Asian Games Incheon limited edition watches in front of the Tissot store in the Media Press Center. In a brief interview with Tissot, Om and Kim both stated, “The fact that I won a gold medal and set a world record gives me great pleasure. I’m grateful of North Koreans who have shown their unwavering support for our team”.

In addition to being the official timekeeper of the 17th Asian Games Incheon, Tissot has served as the sponsor of all the Word Records set for the Asian Games.
