FSM Flagbearer is a weightlifter

The most decorated male weightlifter in the history of Pacific Games, Manuel Minginfel, from FSM, has been selected as the flag bearer for his country at next week’s Opening Ceremony of the 15th Pacific Games in Port Moresby, PNG.

Manuel’s first appearance at a Pacific Games was at the Mini Games in Pago Pago in 1997. Since that time, he has competed in every single Pacific Games and Mini Games, winning a total of 19 gold medals and 5 silver medals.

Manuel is also four times Olympian. Sydney 2000, Athens 2004, Beijing 2008 and London 2012. He is also a silver medallist at the World Championships in 2006 in Santo Domingo – Dominican Republic.

Most of his medals have been won in the 62kg category.

In addition to all of this, Manuel won the World Masters World Cup in his first year as a Master – which was held in Penang two years ago.

In Port Moresby, next week, Manuel will be competing for the first time in a new bodyweight category for him – 69kg category.
