The Pan-American Championships concluded the qualification for Rio 2016

The annual meeting of the Pan-American lifters was held in one of the nicest city of Colombia, Cartagena.

218 athletes from 23 countries fought for the remaining (7 Men and 4 Women) quota places available for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

The Pan-American Weightlifting Federation held its Executive Board meeting and Congress prior to the competitions.

In the framework of the IWF Development Program, an Anti-Doping Seminar was held in Cartagena. The lectures were given by Mr. Marcelo Munoz, IWF expert and participants received latest information about anti-doping related issues.

The following countries qualified for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games with 1 quota:

Men: CUB, ECU, MEX, USA, DOM, PER, CAN

Women: CAN, PUR, CHI, CUB

The IWF thanks the Colombian Weightlifting Federation led by Ms. Ana Edurne Camacho, President for the successful organization of the event as well as the Pan-American Weightlifting Federation for their contribution.
