ANAHEIM READY TO TELL WEIGHTLIFTING’S STORY

Logo for the sport’s premiere event in 2017 released

ANAHEIM, Calif. (April 6, 2017)—Featuring the shining sun that defines Southern California, 2017 International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) World Championships Organizing Committee is proud to introduce the event’s logo that will descend on the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, Calif. Nov. 28 – Dec. 5, 2017.

The logo features an athlete, mid-lift, raising a stylized sun overhead. It marries the beauty of the sport of Weightlifting and Anaheim’s position as the sun-splashed destination of Southern California. The logo also pays homage to LA2024’s Olympic bid campaign, “Follow the Sun.”

“We think this logo ties together everything we want to tell the world about this event,” USA Weightlifting CEO Phil Andrews said. “Weightlifting is a beautiful sport. Anaheim is a beautiful city. This logo helps us tell that story.”

“Anaheim is thrilled to host the 2017 IWF World Championships,” said Roy Edmondson, vice president,Sports Anaheim. “The new logo marries the essence and warmth of Anaheim with the strength and beauty of weightlifting. The city of Anaheim can’t wait for the best of the best of weightlifting to descend on our city later this year.”

More than 300 athletes from 70 countries are expected to compete in the 2017 IWF World Championships. For the first time in history, the United States will hold consecutive World Championships. Houston played host to the last World Championships in 2015. Thousands of fans, technical officials and coaches from around the world will attend the event at the Anaheim Convention Center, which will inject millions of dollars into the Orange County, California economy.

The Anaheim Convention Center is in the heart of the Anaheim Resort district, centrally located between Los Angeles and San Diego Anaheim is easily accessible from four nearby airports including Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), to easily shuttle IWF athletes to their accommodations in Anaheim.
