Training Camp with seminars in Bolivia

A Training Camp for the young talents of South America was organized by the South American Weightlifting Confederation and IWF. The Confederation applied for support within the framework of IWF Development Program and due to its successful application, they received financial support from the IWF.

Young athletes and their coaches from South America participated the 15 days long camp in Santa Cruz, Bolivia; host of this first South American Training Camp.

Several seminars were organized during the camp such as an Anti-Doping Seminar, conducted by the great expert Marcelo Munoz, Doping Control Officer and Pharmacist as well as a Technical Seminar about rules and regulations and the new TCRR was lectured by Gustavo Malgor, International Technical Official, President of the Argentinean Weightlifting Federation and ex officio IWF Executive Board Member.

This event was a great opportunity also for the South American coaches who could share their knowledge and experiences, especially with the participation of Maria Isabel Urrutia – coach of the Colombian team and former Olympic Champion. Maybe it is no surprise that the best lifters of the small tournament which was organized at the end of the training camp were from Colombia.

The organizers and participants already agreed to pursue the organization of such camps and have the next edition planned for the summer of 2018.

A tremendous work was put into place by Jorge Espana, Bolivian Weightlifting Federation’s President thanking the IWF President Dr. Tamas Ajan for the financial assistance provided by the IWF.
