Weightlifting debut at AIMAG successfully concluded

The weightlifting competitions at the 5th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games concluded today with the Men’s +105kg competitions. Enthusiastic crowd filled the Venue cheering for local favourite Hojamuhammet Toycheyyev who grabbed the Silver medal behind Rustam Djangabaev from Uzbekistan. Bronze medal went to Iranian Homayoun Teymouri.

Local Organizing Committee provided superb conditions for athletes and officials in the brand new Ashgabat Olympic Complex, which would satisfy the highest requirements for any level of competition.

Weightlifting was one of the highlight of the whole Games for many reasons:

The only Gold medal in an Olympic event for the host Turkmenistan was achieved by Rejepbay Rejepov in Men’s 77kg.

Eileen Cikamatana representing Fiji in Women’s 90kg won the only Gold medal for Oceania.

Last but not least the only World Record in any sport at the Games was achieved by Sohrab Moradi from I. R. Iran in Men’s 94kg. Moradi making 413kg in the Total surpassed Akakios Kakiasvili’s 18 years old record!

Thank you Ashgabat!
