2017 Silver Medallist made it Gold in 2018

The 2018 IWF Junior World Championships started with 246 athletes competing from 49 countries.

Altogether 100 Women from 28 countries came to Tashkent to compete hoping to claim the Junior World Champion title.

The two favorites of the competition in the Women’s 48kg category were 2017 Silver Medallist NANTHAWONG Chiraphan (THA) and Bronze Medallist OLIVEIRA MADEIRA Luana (BRA). Tense competition went on between the two lifters.

They both came out on higher weights to secure advantage in the Snatch.

Missing her second and third Snatch (79kg-81kg), OLIVEIRA MADEIRA Luana (BRA) got the Silver lifting 76kg.

The Thai lifter NANTHAWONG Chiraphan (THA) improved her 2017 result by 3kg with her second successful Snatch being 81kg.

In the Clean and Jerk, OLIVEIRA MADEIRA started at a lower weight but still managed to get closer to the the leading NANTHAWONG. Ending with a Total of 169kg in 2017, OLIVEIRA managed to reach 172kg here in Tashkent winning three Silver Medals.

Junior Commonwealth Champion in 2017, DALABEHERA Jhilli (IND) lifting in B Group, made it to the podium in the Snatch with 75kg as well as in the Total with 167kg.

Another lifter from B Group, the Japanese SUZUKI Rira (JPN) also secured a Medal. It is quite rare to have two B Group lifters on the podium, defeating all A Group athletes.

With her strong technique and precisely executed lifts, NANTHAWONG Chiraphan (THA) had a 9kg advantage in the Total. She improved her 2017 results in the Total (174kg) and made it to 181kg.

She became the first Junior World Champion crowned in Tashkent.
