 When and why did you start weightlifting?

Kiyomaru, Kotomaru: At age 13, on the recommendation of my father*
* Their father, Masahiro, is a high school teacher and their first coach.  He participated in 2008 Asian Junior Championships (Cheonju, KOR) and 2009 World Junior Championships (Bucharest, ROU) as national coach.

FIRST SOUTH AFRICAN LIFTER MEDAL WINNER AT A WORLD'S CHAMPIONSHIPS

Mona Pretorius of South Africa won the silver medal in the 58 kg. class at the World's University Championships in Greece. Her lifts of 81 kg. snatch, 98 kg. clean and jerk and 179 kg. total were all new South African Junior and Senior records.

- How did you start your career in sport?

- My father got me into the sport, I first practiced Karate and I won 6 world championships Gold medals. I started weightlifting in 2000, to improve my karate and it really helped my explosive power and strength. In 2001 I competed in my 1st weightlifting competition and I won gold. I really enjoyed the sport and my dream has always and still is to go to the Olympics and in Karate I would never have that oppertunity as it is not an Olympic sport. So my ultimate goal is to compete in Olympics and win a medal.

- So, when did you start your international career?

-I started my international career in 2003 where I competed at the All African Games in Nigeria. I came 5th and it really was a great experience for me.

The Great Malvina:
Her name sounds louder and louder

It took 52 years. At that time the sport in Argentina had a great support, thanks to the state politics of the Government of Juan Domingo Perón. A man,  born in the city of Colón, Entre Ríos, was known by everybody in the country. He was able to get into the history of Weighlifting in the Olympic Games.

In 1957, Humberto Selvetti finished second in the World Championship in Teheran (Iran). Just 5 years after achieving the third place in Helsinki Olympic Games (432,5 kg), and just one year after his second place in Melbourne (lifting an Olympic record of 500 kg equal with the winner, Paul Anderson (USA), but lost on bodyweight. ...

 Saied Ali Hosseini the young Iranian Hercules  is preparing for the Goyang 2009 world championships has stated: I have a difficult challenge ahead and I am sure that winning a medal won't be easy in this crucial contest.

Setting 217 British age group records along the way

 

The diminutive frame of 15-year-old Zoe Smith from Abbey Wood, looks at first glance, out of place among the straining hulks and clanking iron in the Europa Weightlifting Club in Fraser Road, Erith. But the softly spoken Year 11 pupil from Townley Grammar School for Girls in Bexleyheath was clearly at home in this unlikely setting.

Lao girl wins weightlifting gold after only nine
months of training

 

Lao weightlifter Kheuakham Lee, 16, has won gold medal for Laos in the 53kg division of the weightlifting competition of the 25th SEA Games.

Ms Kheuakham's win was all the more amazing because she has only been training in the sport for nine months.

"I can't believe what I've achieved. It's so wonderful for me to be able to do this for Laos , my native country. I hope my achievements will be a model for the younger generation in the future," she said excitedly.

Nine months ago members of the Lao Weightlifting Federation visited Phonsavanh School where Ms Kheuakham is a pupil. They asked for anyone who was interested to consider training for the sport. The young woman was intrigued by the idea, especially the thought of representing her country at the games.

Mehmet Zeki Erkan:  Can you give a short knowladge about your autobiography ?

Ayşegül Çoban: I was born in Konya, in 1992. I graduated at M.Karaciganlar Mevlana primary school.Then I go to Sare Özkaşikci secondary boarding school.And now I am a student in Selçuklu Gazi high school and I am staying Sare Özkaşikçi  boarding school student residence.I catch on  many   championship degree in Turkey.I obtained my best success in Youth European Championship in Italy,2007 as a silver medalist.

Mehmet Zeki Erkan: When did you start wheightlifting and also how?

Ayşegül Çoban:I started weigtlifting owing to encouragement of Serap Ünlü, who is sport teacher in Sare Özkaşikçi boarding school, in 2005

Mehmet Zeki Erkan: According to you, what sort of sport is weightlifting? How do you feel when you lift weights?

Ayşegül Çoban: Even though weightlifting seems to very hard ,it is very easy and enjoyable. You don't compete your competitors. You compete only yourself.The better you are ,the more  successful you are.While I am lifting ,I concentrate to my country success and  I say myself 'I must do the best degree for my country' and if I achieve,I think my country people who are my greatest supporters will be proud of me.

Medals give Tuan star status

 

Thach Kim Tuan is developing into Viet Nam's new weightlifting star, following his recent achievement at the Asian Youth and Junior Weightlifting Championship in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

The young talent won one gold and two silver medals there, finishing behind a Chinese weight lifter in the 56kg category in the snatch and total lift event, however, Tuan took the lead in the clean and jerk event.
