Matthias Steiner: I'm on a good path

Last week end it was Steiner's first appearance in Austria after nearly four years. The Austrians have forgiven him to change for German citizenship. The"Sportsman of the Year", with his girlfriend, N24-presenter Inge Posmyk, expect  their first child during next spring.

- Have you reckoned with the warm reception in your native country?
Steiner: I was a bit nervous, but the great thing about Austria is people have forgiven me, that's great. I think people understand now why I left. The move was correct, but it's also nice to be here again - especially because of the delicious food that I miss most of the time.

- Has the feeling of happiness, soon to become a father also motivated you during competition?
Steiner: Private happiness, is certainly not a disadvantage in sport - on the contrary. I am a family man and now simply very happy.

- Do you know whether you have a girl or a boy? And when is your wedding planned?
Steiner: The most important thing is that our child is born healthy. We ourselves do not know the gender of our baby yet. Sorry, there is no wedding date yet.

- Coach Frank Mantek was pleased with your performance. Do you agree with him?
Steiner: I am very satisfied. I was not quite fit in the last week of training, so I was surprised that it went so well. The plan was to lift 190 kg and 235 kg. I have met these requirements.  It was very important  I had six succesful attempts. So I  completely follow my schedule for the World Championships.

- How do you feel about the three months break after your groin surgery? You said you could not even carry a suitcase.
Steiner: Three months, too long time. On the other hand, this break has triggered a huge motivation for me.

- 2012 London Olympics is your declared objective. How important is the World Championships in South Korea in November for you?
Steiner: The pressure is incredibly high. I expect to repeat my Beijing performance. Of course it also depends on the opponents, but I think you automatically will be world champion with 461 kilo.  I'm on a good path.
