Chang, Chao Kuo, 1st vice President of IWF,
Vice President of AWF,
President of Chinese Taipei Weightlifting Association:

A moment of touch

 - I used to be a weightlifter, and through the process became administrator, trainer, official nationally and internationally. I coached our first Olympic medalist in 1984 and few others during the following Olympic Games. As an administrator, I took part in most of the regional, continental and international championships.

 - What was your personal motivation to candidate as Vice President? How did you react on the final result of voting?

-  I think it was time for me to serve our sport on the highest possible level. Regarding the voting result, on the one hand, I felt delighted that recognition was assured by many of the delegates. On the other hand, I felt the more votes I got, the heavier loads tie on my shoulder.

- On what field you think weightlifting should be changed during the next four years?

- Most people link weightlifting with drug, so the concept of "healthy weightlifting" should be implemented and spread. I think in a faster way symposium concerning message should be held at all levels in national, regional, continental and international platforms. The concept of "clean weightlifting and weightlifting for health" is one of our most important goals on regular basis.

- How can you contribute to the further successes of IWF?

-  I think, development programs need to be accelerated in order to balance the performance among the continents. We must send experts to all under developed areas to lift up the standard of our sport.

- What was your greatest experience in weightlifting history?

- My experience tells me that overcome lifted loads mean you can overcome all difficulties encountered in your life.

- What do you think the most attractive about weightlifting?

- No doubt, dramatic moment of record breaking in a competition situation attracts me most affectively. This is not an easy thing because lifters push themselves to the human physiological limit as well as psychological limit. It's really a "moment of touch". (dobor d)
