The last competition for Women here in Tashkent was the Women’s +90kg bodyweight was dominated without any potential opponent by LEE Seon Mi (KOR) 2018 Asian Junior Champion. After three good lifts in the Snatch – where she got a 7kg advantage – she came out for three good lifts in the Clean and Jerk and lifted once again 10kg more than the Silver Medallist. With her Total of 274kg, she was the absolute winner showing impressive technique and strength. AYOVI CABEZAS Lisseth Betzaida (ECU), Bronze Medallist at the 2017 IWF Junior World Champion and 6th at the World Championships also came out for three good lifts in the Snatch. She finished second followed by BENITEZ RIVERA Ashamarie (USA) – third place with 104kg. After a 4th place in the Snatch, AMOE-TARRANT Charisma Precious (NRU) came up second in the Clean and Jerk with 142kg. Her Total of 245kg was just 1kg higher than the one of BENITEZ RIVERA allowing her to take third place. Successful Anti-Doping Seminar and Education Booth in Tashkent

The IWF held its third Education Seminar in Tashkent, Uzbekistan in conjunction with the Junior World Championships. The lecturer, Dr Lilla Sagi, IWF Junior Legal Counsel presented the 8 rules to prevent doping in weightlifting. At this second Anti-Doping Seminar 30 people from several countries (athletes, coaches, team leaders) attended. As previously, the seminar was built up to gain knowledge in a funny, playful an interactive way. Participants could answer to questions and at the end all were awarded with gifts. Until the end of the Championship a Booth was set up in the competition venue where everybody could try weightlifting, ask questions related to anti-doping and fill out a quiz within the framework of the #iliftclean campaign. CHKHEIDZE made it Gold

Georgian CHKHEIDZE Irakli was the only one ending the Snatch with three good lifts, the third one being 171kg. With that last one, he took the leading position, with a 4kg advantage over DJURAEV Akbar (UZB) 2018 Asian Junior Champion. DJURAEV had only one good lift at 167kg before giving 172kg a try. He missed twice on the weight, but still ended second. Bronze Medallist at the 2018 Asian Junior Championship AZIZI Amir (IRI) finished third with 162kg. In the Clean and Jerk, after the first set of lifts, coaches kept raising the bar. That tactical fight resulted in a couple of missed attempts for some. CHKHEIDZE, once again, had three good lifts and finished the competition with an impressive 211kg Clean and Jerk. With his Total of 382kg, he defeated DJURAEV lifting 13kg less. He won three Silver Medals following a successful 202kg Clean and Jerk and ending with a Total of 369kg. The Gold stays in Tashkent

The Uzbek lifter, DAVRONOVA won the Junior World Champion title in the 90kg bodyweight category, after ranking 5th in the Snatch here in Tashkent. RIOTTO Juliana Rose (USA), who have recorded two IWF registered competitions so far, finishing at the 8th place on the occasion of the 2017 Junior Worlds took the lead in the Snatch with three good lifts – 94kg, 97kg, 99kg. Second at the 2018 European Championships and 2017 Youth World Championships FISCHER Sarah (AUT) came out at 96kg and moved up to 98kg. Both of them being good lifts, she came out to give 100kg a try but the weight proved to be too much this time. Ending with the same Snatch result as BOYNUEGRI Tugce (TUR), as FISCHER lifted first the 98kg weight, she got the Silver Medal leaving the Bronze to the Turkish lifter. There was a close competition between three athletes, DAVRONOVA Dolera (UZB) 2018 Asian Youth Champion, RIOTTO and FISCHER in the Clean and Jerk. Ranking 5th in the Snatch, DAVRONOVA showed impressive strength is the Clean and Jerk. She had the highest starting weight – 123kg – then with a successful 128kg attempt, and a Total of 225kg she got the Gold Medal in both. RIOTTO missed her first attempt at 120kg, but immediately corrected it with her second. Her last Clean and Jerk at 125kg have her a Bronze as well as a Silver Medal for her Total of 224kg. FISCHER attempted to lift more than the Uzbek DAVRONOVA, but her third attempt was considered a no lift by the jury. Happy Birthday to Kakhi Kakhiashvili

2018 Friday 13th  is a rather lucky day: one of the most prominent weightlifters of all time, Kakhi Kakhiashvili is celebrating his birthday today! The three times Olympic Champion Georgian legend, who is currently the President the Georgian Weightlifting Federation, won his first Olympic Gold Medal at the Barcelona 1992 Olympic Games, as part of the post-Soviet Unified Team, in the 90kg bodyweight category. He won the next two Gold Medals representing Greece at the Atlanta 1996 Games in the 99kg bodyweight category, and in Sydney in the 94kg category. He was born on July 13, 1969, in Tsinvali and still achieved remarkable results while competing under the Georgian flag. He became European Champion in 1993 and won a Silver Medal at the World Championships. He won three World Championships (1995, 1998, 1999) and stood up several World Records which of some were not beaten for 18 years. After retiring from his sports career, he did a lot for the recognition of the Georgian weightlifting in his country and made significant contribution to upgrade weightlifting as a successful sport and earn international recognition.  He didn't achieve his results only as an athlete or coach, but as a highly respected sport diplomat while he is now the President of the Weightlifting Federation of Georgia - working tirelessly for the sport. Kakhi Kakhiashvili was inducted to the IWF Hall of Fame in 2010. Under his leadership, Tbilisi, Georgia could host major international events such as the 2015 European Championships and the 2016 IWF Junior World Championships.  Last May, he demonstrated again his great organizing skills as mainly it is his merit that the Georgian Capital hosted the IWF Lifter of the Year Gala. Qatari ELBAKH proved to be the best

On Day 6 at the 2018 IWF Junior World Championships, the platform gave place to a two-man trial between ELBAKH Fares Ibrahim E. H. (QAT) 2017 Junior World Champion and RIVAS MOSQUERA Jhonatan (COL), who finished 5th at the same competition. Both athletes moved up a bodyweight category from 85kg to 94kg. During the Snatch, both of them came out at the same starting weight of 163kg. And right after that, the tactical fight with raising weights began. ELBAKH’s next attempt was 167kg which RIVAS answered with 168kg. At last, the Columbian came out as the winner with 171kg, while ELBAKH stayed behind with 170kg. BABAKYAN Samvel, 4th at the 2015 European Youth Championships in the Men’s 77kg bodyweight category won the Bronze in the Snatch lifting 160kg. In the Clean and Jerk, he only managed to reach 201kg, resulting in a Bronze Medal in the Total with 361kg. The Clean and Jerk didn’t much hope to ELBAKH’s rivals. RIVAS made 203kg while ELBAKH’s starting weight was 205kg. He raised the bar to 215kg and made it a good lift. ELBAKH won with a Total of 385kg, eleven kilograms more than RIVAS.
