AIMAG started in Ashgabat
The 5th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games (AIMAG) started today in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan.
The event is historical for two reasons: this is the first edition of the Games where athletes from Oceania are also invited to participate in all 21 sports, making the participating NOCs number as high as 65.
Also this is the first Games with weightlifting on the program, including 188 athletes from 38 countries (55 athletes representing 13 countries from Oceania).
Magnificent Opening Ceremony, the biggest event in Turkmenistan’s history launched Ashgabat 2017 Games yesterday evening, in the packed Ashgabat Olympic Stadium.
In the first competition, Women 48kg category Huiying XIAO, CHN finished on the top of the podium with 190kg, while local athlete, Yulduz JUMABAYEWA, TKM became Silver medallist with 189kg and Thi Huyen VUONG, VIE secured Bronze with 186kg.
