Seven Medallist in the Men’s 89kg

The men’s 89kg bodyweight category was one of the rare competitions when seven lifters were awarded medals after a fierce battle and only 3kg difference between the first and sixth place.

If the Armenian MKRTCHYAN Hakob had successfully completed his last lift, he would have won, but missing it he finished seventh with 365kg.

Two lifters made it double among the seven winning two medals each: winner of the Snatch and Total OKULOV Artem (RUS) and winner of the Clean and Jerk and second in Total KHADASEVICH Pavel (BLR).

OKULOV, 2015 World Champion won after ranking eight in the Snatch with 166kg. However, in the Clean and Jerk, he was the only one to bare 206kg, with a Total of 372kg, he is the World Champion.

“I wanted to win three Golds, but I am completely happy with two! A great day for me!”OKULOV

KHADASEVICH was second with 371kg and Georgian DAVITADZE Revaz had the same result, who got the Bronze Medal despite being fourth in the Snatch and fifth in the Clean and Jerk.

DAVITADZE set three Junior World Records, just like Venezuelan VALLENILLA SANCHEZ Keydomar Giovanni, but the latter only got the sixth place with 369kg. World Champion in 2017, MENDEZ PEREZ Arley (CHI) managed the same weight, fifth in Total, but he claimed the Gold in the Snatch (169kg).
