LYU Xiaojun is five-time World Champion at the age of 35

Chinese LYU Xiaojun triumphed in the men’s 81kg battle on the fifth day of the World Championships. The 35-years-old who previously won four golds and came to Pattaya as a title defender, finished at 171kg in the Snatch, achieving the result before his compatriot, LI Dayin.

This was LYU’s 17th medal on a World Championships and his 10th World title. LYU continued the spectacular performance in the Clean and Jerk: although LI, who held the Total World Record with 375kg, cleaned 206kg, but LYU – despite having obvious back pains – broke the World Record and set it at 207kg, winning the gold for both this lift and the Total (378kg), which is also a new World Record.

The two Chinese put a huge margin between them and the rest of the participants, and the others could only compete for the Bronze Medals. In the Snatch, KARAPETYAN Andranik (ARM) was third with 168kg, while in the Clean and Jerk, first in the B session, Bulgarian BEYTULA Yunder Nedim could stand on the third podium(201kg). In Total, the Bronze Medal went to Columbian RODALLEGAS CARVAJAL Brayan Santiago (363kg).
