Eighth Gold for China

China now won in 8 bodyweight categories (men and women) so far at the 2019 IWF World Championships in Pattaya. On the seventh day of the competition, TIAN Tao stood on the top podium.

In the Snatch, the Bronze Medallist at this years European Championships, PLIESNOI Anton (GEO) was first with 181kg, who up until a couple of years ago, represented Ukraine. TIAN, an Olympic and World Championships Silver Medallist finished his attempts 1kg behind PLIESNOI and 2019 Junior World Champion Silver Medallist, RIVAS MOSQUERA Jhonatan was third with 179kg.

In the Clean and Jerk, TIAN won with 230kg, which was less than his personal best but still earned him the Total Gold as well. The Silver in this lift and Total went to ELBAKH Farres Ibrahim E. H. (224, 402). Iranian MOUSAVIJARAHI Seyedayoob pocketed the Clean and Jerk Bronze (214kg) while PLIESNOI Anton stepped on the third podium with a Total result of 394kg.

A Youth World Record was also set in the men’s 96kg category by the 17-years-old, Russian BABAYAN Artur, 161kg in the Snatch.
