When and where did you begin this sport?
She began her sporting career in Nakkila, Finland, where she competed in hurdles at district level. She started weightlifting at age 20 in Tampere, Finland.
Why this sport?
She took up weightlifting as a way of overcoming her grief after her brother passed away. "With athletics, I became interested in strength training. I started competing in weightlifting in 2008 and did quite well in the sport. In 2011 I switched to weightlifting because I needed more versatile training and more challenges."

REMAINING STRONG
In 2006 her brother Lauri was attacked on the street and died as a result of his injuries. After her brother's death she decided she wanted to spend more time alone, and began weight training to help overcome her grief. "For the first five years [after her brother's death] sport was my only strength. I had to be the strongest person in the world to be mentally strong. When I stopped trying to fill the gap after the loss of Lauri, I learned how to breathe and then I was finally able to enjoy my life."
