She took up the sport at age 11 in Noginsk, Russian Federation.
Why this sport?
She visited a gym by chance and after easily lifting a barbell that weighed 20 kilograms, she was spotted by coach Vladimir Krasnov who suggested she try the sport seriously. "Weightlifting has become my hobby, work and passion. Sport is my life."

She recalls that her parents were initially against her starting in weightlifting. "Mum and dad were very afraid that I would not be able to have children. Telling them that with the right approach, barbell exercises are completely harmless, did not help to convince them. I had to disobey the will of my parents and go to training without permission.
