British Weight Lifting Chairman Peter Rowley awarded OBE in the Queen’s New Year 2017 Honours list

British Weight Lifting Chairman Peter Rowley has been awarded as Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for services to sports administration in the Queen’s New Year 2017 Honours list. Since joining British Weight Lifting in May 2013, Peter has made a significant contribution to the sport in his role as chairman, whilst still maintaining several important roles within the wider sports industry. Peter said of the award: “I’m astonished to receive this honour. It is entirely due to the wonderful and inspirational people that I’ve been privileged to meet and work with as a volunteer in sport, which has the power to change people’s lives and communities”. 8th H.H.Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al-Maktoum Creative Sports Award Winners Announced

H.H. Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al-Maktoum, the Crown Prince of Dubai, Chairman of Dubai Sports Council & Patron of “H.H. Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al-Maktoum Creative Sports Award” and H.H. Sheikh Ahmed Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al-Maktoum, the President of the National Olympic Committee & Chairman of the Award, rewarded winners of the various categories of the 8th Edition of the Award. The winners of the 8th Edition of the Award were rewarded in a prestigious awarding ceremony, held on Monday afternoon at Dubai World Trade Center in the presence of H.H. Sheikh Ahmed Bin Saeed Al-Maktoum, President of Dubai Civil Aviation Authority & Chairman of Emirates Group / H.H. Princess Haya Bint Al-Hussain, the Wife of H.H. Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al-Maktoum, the Vice President & Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai. The awarding ceremony was also attended by H.H. Sheikh Hasher Bin Maktoum Al-Maktoum, Director General of Dubai Dept. of Information & President of the UAE Tennis Association / Sheikh Saeed Bin Maktoum Bin Juma Al-Maktoum / H.E. Mater Al-Tayer, the Deputy President of DSC / several official persons in the sports sector. Local Junior Athlete attained Distinctive Success: As per the directives of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al-Maktoum, the Crown Prince of Dubai, Chairman of DSC & Patron of the Award, and based on the decision of the Board of Trustees of the Award to enable public to participate in the nomination of the best three junior athletes by voting through Dubai Sports Channel & smart application of the Award, six young athletes were named. The winners of this category were rewarded in the Final Awarding Ceremony, on 9th Jan. 1st Rank: Mai Ahmed Essa Al-Madani, who has gained nine golden medals in the Arab & Afro–Asian Weightlifting Championship in Jordan – 2016. Athlete Attained Top Level Achievement (4 winners – 1 weightlifter) Sara Sameer Al-Sayed – Egypt: The first Arab female athlete to attain Olympic medal in weightlifting – bronze medal in Rio De Janeiro Olympics 2016. Guyana Amateur Weightlifting Association Level 1 Coaching Course

Guyana Amateur Weightlifting Association organized in the framework of IWF Education Program a Level 1 Coaching Course supported by IWF and the Panamerican Weightlifting Federation. The event was held at the National Sports Resource Center in Georgetown, Guyana between 9th-11th December 2016. The three days of intense practical and theoretical lessons were conducted by Mr. Kyle Pierce and attracted 29 participants of which 23 completed the course. On the opening day Mr. Christopher Jones, Director of Sports in Guyana, Mr. Noel Adonis, Vice President of the Guyana Olympic Association and Mr. Frank Tucker, President of Guyana Amateur Weightlifting Association welcomed all participants. Trainers qualified to train beginners in weightlifting now. The media was on hand to capture the moments and circulate the same in the local press. Source: Guyana
